I was gifted one of these in a bright red aluminium tube about a month ago, and I thought I would smoke it today.

The cigar is a dark maduro perfecto.

The wrapper was rather rough with no seams and few veins.

It clipped well and the prelight draw was just right.

The first puff was a bit harsh, and I thought the entire cigar was going to be that way, but the flavors evened out to a medium-full bodied smoke.

The ash was solid and light grey in color.

There was no tooth noted.

The finish was woody and dry.

Doc ***** Tobacco is a filthy weed, I like it...

I've never tried one because they are approx. $15.00 per stick in this area. I know I can find a great cigar at half the price, hell I have found great cigars at hald the price. It would have to be a very very...great cigar for the money.

...as to the notion of excess, I don't give much thought to it except to say that I never smoke while I'm sleeping, and I never smoke more than one cigar at a time while I'm awake.

I haven't tried the Maduro yet, but I really like the Platinum and the Gold tubes. I love the Cameroon wrappers.

i went on impulse and bought a sampler a while back. it included the red, silver, and gold versions of the preferidos. I've only smoked the same one Doc sampled, IMHO i would say they are not worth the price. I haven't tried the other ones. They are a bit too harsh to be priced as a premium cigar. For what they have in looks they lack in flavor and value IMO.

I too was gifted one at a graduation last summer.
I did enjoy it, so I bought ab untubed natural sampler(3 sizes). the littlest ones, I believe are comparable to a short story, spicy and pack a nice punch for their size. As for the other two sizes I believe they lake in flavor and complexity. Tha construction is good with all having a gorgeous wrapper. For the money though I would probably find something else, Padron Ann., VSG's, Opus X, DCM, Padron 1926.

Red Tubo (5 x 54) I just had the #2 size in maduro. For the price the maduro wrapper on it looked a little rough and not up to its value. I thought it was medium bodied, the draw was just ok (it never opened up entirely), it had a real nice white looking ash to it, and it burned even. The taste was just average, it tasted a little dry and with a slight richness to it. Its price is a bit high because you pay for its large cedar box and original tubes. Worth trying but not a favorite.

whaat?

I had purchased a box in the DR for about $200 from the La Aurora/Leon factory. They are good cigars but they can be a little harsh...I was thinking of taken them out of the tubes to age but was unsure...what do you guys think...

Piss on me once ...that's your fault...Piss on me twice that's my fault....

That or either crack the the tubes open. They more than likely need to sit for a while. Let em sit untubed for about three months before you try another.
