Appearance and construction 14/15
Ashton makes some of the best looking cigars - period. This one is no exception. The construction is class all the way. The band is really cool too. The cameroon wrapper is beautiful. It is a dark rich reddish brown color with an oily sheen and a lot of tooth.

Flavor 18/25
The flavor was just OK IMO. It started out kinda dull, not unlike many cameroons I have had, and then picked up the pace as it burned. On the last third it finally started kicking out nice rich cammie flavors of earth, cinammon and allspice. Pretty weak for the pricetag.

Smoking characteristics 20/25
Decent burn. The ash was crooked and weak and fell off quickly. The strength was too mild. This is the first imperfect burn I have ever had on an ashton.

Overall 25/35
This cigar doesn't grab me like the VSG. As far as cammies go, I would take a hemmingway sig or don carlos any day of the week over this one. Its just too mild and flavorless for the majority of the smoke. Price is always a factor. If this was a bundle cigar I would probably rate it as a great bargain but at my local they go for 12 bucks a pop. At that price someone would have to be insane to think this is a good deal. I might buy more if they were more like 3 bucks each for a mild morning cigar. I dunno, this one is a disappointment. I guess its possible I just got a bum stick. I will revisit in another couple months as usual.

overall 77

I can see why no one every mentions the Puro sol now. Thanks for the heads up PMP! Wink

El Prez - If this smoke was half the price, it might have recieved an 80 or maybe an 82. It could have been a bad stick so don't base your opinions on this experience alone. Although for 12 bucks I don't expect to encounter very many bad sticks. If I smoked another and didn't like it I would basically write this line off entirely.

I never heard much about them up until now, other than for the price of them id rather buy a VSG. But I found one on an auction site, and I won it for 6$. So what the hell, I'll give it a go.

People aren't smoking cigars to be trendy, cool or stylish. They're smoking cigars because they like them. Because they enjoy the experience. Because for about $5 they can spend an hour sampling one of life's greatest luxuries.

This make of cigars is a waste of money. The VSG line is far superior to other Ashton lines. I had two heritage puro sol belisco after their inclusion in the top twenty-five cigars issue of CA. They are very nondescript unlikely their VSG's counterparts.

I wouldn't include the other ashton lines in that statement. I think aside from the puro sol, they make the some of the finest non-cuban cigars on the market.
