Fuente Fuente Opus X A
9.250 x 47
Very nice wrapper, very smooth with the exception to a few bumps in the wrapper. Wonderfully rolled except for a tiny soft spot by the band. Perfect draw as well with a predraw flavor that coats the mouth. I rarely get this much flavor out of a NC on a predraw. Took a flame very well, and my crème brulee torch made quick work of lighting it. Definitely some of that pepper flavor right up front that I usually get with Opus. The flavor is really heavy on this cigar, very concentrated. Im getting a little bitterness that I associate with an espresso type flavor. Taste is a bit young, but not bad at all.
After smoking this cigar for a little bit, the strong pepperyness faded away a bit, but still lingers on the back of my throat. I’m detecting a little bean to it now as well as some leathery notes. It is burning a bit uneven, but I kind of thought it might with the size of this thing. The Opus power is there too, this is definitely a full bodied cigar that will probably wipe me out by the end of it! Im expecting this thing to last me around 3 hours, as I tend to smoke fairly slow. Accidentally knocked the ash off at a little under an inch, but I suspect it would have held on longer if I actually had an ashtray big enough to accommodate this monster.
The strength isn’t as upfront anymore, and this thing is developing into quite a nice smoke. I know there is a lot of hype around opus, and yes, they are overpriced, but this is one tasty stick. The burn is starting to even out as well which is a plus.
Down to about Churchill size now, and that leathery taste is dominating with a bit of earthyness behind it. This cigar is burning nice and slow and the smoke is nice and cool. Newcastle was a great beverage choice to have with this cigar, the beany flavor of the brown ale really compliments the Opus flavor profile.
Ok, the ash is holding on really nicely now and I don’t think this cigar is as full bodied as I had projected. Its burning nicely hasn’t gone out at all and has only required a few touchups. (Mostly because im picky about the burn and like it to remain nice and even, but it hasn’t been bad at all)
About at the halfway point now, and this cigar is staying pretty consistent with the same flavors, if not a bit mellower at this point. Started off really full flavored, mellowed out now, and I suspect it will pick back up towards the end. A little over an hour into this thing and I’m smoking it a lot faster than expected. Its making a funny sound when draw on it, I can hear the air whistling through the cigar as I draw.
The flavor and strength are picking up a bit now as I thought they would, I just took the band off too so im getting towards the end of this behemoth! The young flavor quickly faded away too, im not sure the age on this stick, Binder might know though. Just stood up to stretch out cause Ive been sitting here for a while, and im starting to feel the strength of this thing plus the beer im drinkin, haha.
Just hit the 2 hour mark on this cigar and im almost done with it. Not smoking hot or bitter at all, which is always a sign of a nicely rolled cigar. The strength is really picking up too. I will defiantly be nubbin this thing. The ash is holding nicely, not too flakey which is nice because I hate being covered in ash by the end of a nice cigar. Total time, 2 and a half hours!
Overall, I really enjoyed this cigar and thanks again Binder for giving me the chance to try this thing! I recommend this thing to any Opus fan that has some major time to invest into smoking it.
